This book was better than most YA books I have been reading lately. I actually connected with the characters better and cared what happened to them. I think part of it is my bias towards shifter characters, but maybe it's just better story telling as well. It still isn't perfect and I felt parts of the story were very jarring, hopping from one part to another too rapidly. Also not super impressed with the way it ended, everything always seems so rushed in books nowadays, but of course there is always enough left unfinished at the end to leave you hanging for a sequel.
